She's Melting

She's MELLLTTIINNGGG

We haven't gone all out disturbing for a few weeks so we were hankering for some gore 😀🤢

Behind the Scenes 😜

To begin we mapped out the underlying textures with cotton strips and latex and a pretty dang rudimentary paint base.

Next it was time to bloodify the look a bit for that raw bacon face look

Our bacon face was looking a tad to crispy so it was time to get our slime on with this giant bucket of glycerine mixture with a few big pieces to plump out the melting skin.
This smelled prettttty awful.

DRIP DRIP DROP....the process of applying our gooey mixture as it began to solidify, bit by bit. Those long strings? Thats the good gross stuff. Once the mix was applied to the face and hands we painted the entire look and added some of our favourite eyeballs.  Hope you enjoyed the ooey gooey FX this week!

True Form

Shedding Her Skin

This girls bite pack some venom.

To start this look we began with laying down general snakey forms.

Fangs were molded and shaped using friendly plastic which should probably be named incredibly useful wonder blob. Pictured : Very Canadian Tim Hortons mug for boiling water.

We used fabric mesh and saran wrap to replicate the delicate nature of flaking skin, which was latexed around the "shed line"

We added layers of shedding skin and then stippled colour onto it. A small snake eye was then applied to the lid (with eyelash glue) and final painting touch ups for this slitherin.

Greed

Greed

Sure you can have some treasure...if you can take it from her

This look involved a lot of careful jewel placement (latexed into place) to keep symmetry aligned as much as possible.
Some gems were made with gelatin/glycerin in a candy mold and some were mass produced gems that you can get anywhere...and keep in a mountain of gems until you realize it's time to pile them into a look.

We did a base of Mehron gold as a base with tears of Mehron silver because the only thing that goes better with shiny is MORE shiny.
The crown is holographic paper with cardboard backing to keep shape and that is the jist of this scary siren.
Hope you enjoy her and are having your own creative adventures out there :-)

Nightmarish Notions

Nightmarish Notions

What could be scarier than seeing this creep up from the darkness? How about erasing all of the FX pics from the look you had just completed? TERRIFYING ;-P

However, THIS look was completed by laying the foundations of veiny web work over the entire face with red and black paint, followed by latexing wool fibers into nice organic, spread out formations.  Last but not least a squirt of mouth safe blood and one more layer of black watery paint stippled over everything for that  "dragged from the bowls of the earth" chic. VOILA!

Happy FXing to all of you out there!

PHOENIX

PHOENIX

It isn't always a pretty process to rise anew, but sometimes you have to leave things in ashes.

BEHIND THE SCENES of this fiery winged beast

Firstly, the bones of our wings.  We needed a bit of structure for our feathers so it didn't look like a flightless clump....No chicken phoenix allowed

Next was a wash of black to cover tats and lay an ashen base of BURNED FLESH...creeeeepy

We then lifted sections of black out in cracked volcanic crust formation using a sponge and a stencil to speed things up....coincidence that it revealed a bird fossil???? You see it too right???

There...now you DEFINITELY see it too :-D

Moving on came the tedious process of filling in all that negative space with our fiery brimstone.

While painting was progressing a screaming beak was simultaneously being built out of makeup sponges cut, shaped, and covered in cotton/latex.

Maybe most unsettling was the application of these feet cotton/latexed on to be busting through

Next the addition of that beak which just looks freakin' squawky. ( Pfffft maybe I DID have to google how to spell "squawk"....whats it to ya??

Very low tech method of applying the fire and smoke...but hey...whatever works!
Hope you enjoyed the look cuz we were pretty stoked to share it with you :-)  Happy creating wherever you are!

Golden Fire Goddess

Golden Fire Goddess

Not often do we have cause to set our creations on fire, but it was our total pleasure to do so this time :-)

BEHIND DA SCENES

We were hard at work whipping up our biggest batch of gelatin to date.  Turns out...TOO big.  We would recommend doing many smaller batches as this was a mother-lover to try and get to the correct consistency.

After the model was painted for the heavens it was time to apply her candle hands.  Please for the love of Zeus remember to take a bathroom break BEFORE this step.

We used our FANCIEST duct tape to strap those suckers on as we didn't want to leave the structural integrity up to the cotton/latex pieces. These candles were cut down to our desired length.

Next step was coating the fingers in cotton latex and letting the top layer dry a bit so we could GOLDIMIFY it all. Her arm was wrapped in seran which THEN got coated with our gelatin mixture to have the appearance of melted wax.  This was messy as hell. Once the entire arm was painted it was time for the goddess to shine and the rest is photo documented history ;-)
